French Onion Dip
While you may buy French onion dip at the store, this recipe will make you quickly reconsider that decision. Caramelizing onions does bring out the sugars more but this dip can be enjoyed in moderation on the keto diet. Paired with pork rinds or raw vegetables, this dip can be enjoyed right after you make it or after resting in the refrigerator overnight for enhanced flavor.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons butter
1½ cups chopped yellow onion
¾ teaspoon salt, divided
1 cup sour cream
½ cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Directions Preparing:5 minCooking:45 min
Step 1In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt the butter. Add the onions and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Allow the onions to caramelize for 35 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 2Remove the onions from the heat. Allow them to cool while preparing the remaining ingredients.
Step 3In a medium bowl, mix together the sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, and remaining 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
Step 4Add the cooled onions to the mixture. Stir to combine.
Step 5Before serving, cover and refrigerate the dip for 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld, or overnight for the best-tasting results.
