Ingredients
2 tbsp butter
1 1/2 cups chopped yellow onion
3/4 tsp salt, divided
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
Directions
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt the butter. Add the onions and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Allow the onions to caramelize for 35 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove the onions from the heat. Allow them to cool while preparing the remaining ingredients.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, and remaining 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- Add the cooled onions to the mixture. Stir to combine.
- Before serving, cover and refrigerate the dip for 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld, or overnight for the best-tasting results.
